There he was sitting on a grand office chair behind a large marble table, like a king. He was looking down over a file. Guard knocked. Then went inside. Geet was walking behind him.
“Sir, she is my sister Geeta” the guard said meekly.
“Hmm, does she know all the households?” Prataap Singh asked without looking up.
“Yes Sir, she knows everything. In the village she was there only to do her whole work. She is very responsible”
While they were talking, Geet peeped from behind with red eyes. She wanted to shoot him right away but she didn’t want to kill him like that. She was not a coward like him who used money to remove her from his path. She wanted to take her revenge, from the front.
“Okay, show her to the servants’ room and explain all the work.” Prataap said. Guard elbowed Geet and gestured her to say thank you.
“Thank you sir” A familiar voice comes out.
instantly, Prataap looked up all shocked. This was Geet’s voice. Yes, indeed it was. But she can’t be here. He looked at her. Geet looked down hiding her venomous eyes. She couldn’t open her identity so soon.
Prataap observed her from up to down. Then shoved the thought. She can not be Geet. This girl is so pale and totally disgusted. Yes, certainly her feature is similar with Geet, yet Geet is dead and this is a fact.
“Now go from here” he commanded again got engrossed in the file. They left the room.
They were going through the corridor when Geet’s feet stuck. Her breathing became mad. When she saw a flower garland hanging over her photo. People use the garland after death and here she was witnessing it being alive.
“That’s Geet Madam.” Guard said. “Passed away at very young age.” There was sorrow in the voice of the guard.
“Who else lives here?” Geet wanted to be sure that there is no servant or some other person living with him?
“No one else. Previously the whole house was full of servants but now no one. My job is outside the house, so I was not fired. Sir does not want to meet anyone after Madam’s departure.” They reached at servent quarters. It was outside of the mansion. “This is your room. Here are the clothes of the servants to wear. And start working now. Sir does not like the delay” saying so he left.
Geet was now all alone in the room. She thought to get her gun at the right time because the entire house had mesh of CCTV cameras. There was mixed feeling in her heart. What day has it come? She came into her own house as a servant and had to kill her own people. She still wished that “I wish, time would turn around and be all the same again.” But she knew this was not possible. “No Geet, you cannot be weak. It is a fact that the sooner you adopt, the better it will be for you” she shoved the week thoughts away.
There was not much work that day. Pratap also went out somewhere in the evening and had to return late at night. Geet was a complete stranger in her own house. Everything was reminding her of her past. Her childhood, uncle’s caress, their hide and seek game and everything. Her mind started to panic, so she went out into the garden to get some fresh air. She still hid her face behind the soot. Veil on the head and old clothes of the servant on her body. She was sitting on her favorite swing. The guard was sleeping in his chair on the other side of the bungalow.
Geet’s eyes were closed but her mind was full of questions. Don’t know why she was missing Maan right now. How he had saved her life even if there was no relationship between them, and on the other side, her own people here want to kill her.
Suddenly, leaves rattle around. She opened her eyes. She felt someone was behind. But no one was there. She again got immersed in memory lane but again heard the same sound. She got disturbed and thought to go inside.
In her room, she was laying on the bed. Still her mind was disturbed with Maan’s memories when someone knocked the door. The same way Maan used to knock. “Forget him Geet!” she scolded herself and walked to the door. She opened it but no one was there. “Who is there?” She called in frustration.
“Looking for me Geet?”
She turned around, all shocked hearing Maan’s voice.
